Letter: A manufactured crisis

A manufactured crisis

In my humble opinion, when the Earth’s temperature fluctuations are looked upon from a perspective of millions of years, it is clear that there are periods of very cold, such as the ice ages, and periods of very warm, such as the dinosaur ages. And it is very clear that during those periods of time, human beings were not contributing to any great degree of those climate changes — unless one wishes to make the argument that human flatulence was or is a factor.

And it would seem to me that it would be a very myopic perspective (agenda- or money-serving self-interest) to take the climate fluctuations of what would be a minuscule period of time of decades compared with all those millions of years as representative of a dire earthly environmental crisis.

Not to mention that if the sun burps, we either burn up or freeze anyway.

So, as far as I’m concerned, there certainly is climate change, but it is a natural cycle of planet warming and cooling, and mankind’s contribution to it pales to insignificance when geological (volcanoes for example) and solar factors are considered. However, that does not stop certain individuals from never letting a manufactured crisis go to waste — to their own advantage, of course.
