Kudos and Kindness from Aspen Times readers (Aug. 20, 2017)

Props to Playgroup Aspen

Dear Miss Kadi and your team at Playgroup Aspen,

Your kindness, integrity and professionalism are unparalleled. We are fortunate to be able to send our children to such a wonderful school in the valley, and it’s all thanks to you.

Miss Mare is an incredible role model for our children. So many of us have had the pleasure of knowing and loving her. Miss Kadi, you have followed in her pioneering footsteps. Your thoughtfulness and patience go above and beyond, and you make sure our children feel nurtured every step of the way.

I appreciate everything you continue to do and have done for my son. He adores you and your team, and I hope the school continues to grow and inspire other families in the future. Thank you for the time, love and effort you put into offering our children a secure, loving and intellectually stimulating environment.

We are proud to be part of the Playgroup Aspen family!

Challenge Aspen spreads thanks

As the CEO of Challenge Aspen, I wanted to inform our local Roaring Fork Valley community of the tremendous support of our highly valued sponsors. Without sponsor assistance, Challenge Aspen would be unable to perform at our current level of achievement.

We recently held our 14th Annual Vince Gill and Amy Grant Gala and Golf Classic, and what a success it was!

We are so grateful to Christine and Michael Morykwas for their continued generosity as our incredible title sponsors. The St. Regis Aspen Resort, their wonderful staff and fantastic location made our event a summer highlight. I am impressed with how readily and consistently the St. Regis offers their generosity to Challenge Aspen’s Vince Gill and Amy Grant Gala and Golf Classic each year.

In addition to the St. Regis, I would like to thank the Snowmass Club for hosting our exciting Golf Classic — this year we had three holes-in-one including an albatross! Lastly, our official vehicle sponsor, Glenwood Springs Subaru, enabled us to reach an even greater level of success.

Together, Challenge Aspen and our dedicated sponsors are working to address the needs of those within the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond, with cognitive and/or physical disabilities. These generous partnerships help ensure Challenge Aspen’s exciting future as the internationally renowned adaptive recreation program and reinforce our mission of making possibilities for people with disabilities.

The Challenge Aspen staff and I would like to thank the remainder of our wonderful sponsors, without whom, we would not have been able to host such a triumphant event: Alpine Bank, Aspen Magazine, Aspen Public Radio, Aspen Skiing Co., The Aspen Times, Snowmass Sun, Bluebird Productions, Charity Golf International, Coloradough, d’Elissious Cake Studio of Aspen, Dancing Bear Aspen, Destination Residences Snowmass, Douglas Elliman, élevée, Fuel, The Gant Aspen, Germantown Commissary, Harvest Wine Co., Jay’s Valet, Jimmy’s, KSPN, Meridian Jewelers, Mountain Beverage, Mountain Living, The MyersRoberts Collective, Snowmass Base Village, SocialLight, Stripped Mixers, Suerte Tequila, Swire Coca-Cola, The Westin Snowmass Resort and Woody Creek Distillers.

Excellence in health care

I want to express my sincerest thanks to the doctors, physicians assistants, nurses and staff that have allowed me a glimpse of their world over the past few months. Dr. Von Stade (I can speak to how good Leelee really is from my own experiences with sports injuries — and she’s better than top-of-the-line), Dr. Heather Murphy, Dr. Michael Murphy, Dr. Chris Beck, Dawn Kopf, PA-C, and Jamie Holler, PA-C, have shown me great patience.

We should all consider what a privilege it is to have so many excellent doctors in our small town and recognize what great care we can receive because of their expertise and beautiful new facilities.

I was lucky enough to “shadow” this summer, and the skill, kindness and just general know-how and know-what of our local health care providers is incredible. Our doctors and physician assistants are great teachers, caregivers and overall really amazing, interesting people! I am so grateful to have grown up in a valley that has let me experience a hospital setting in such a personalized way, and that has inspired me to pursue a career in the same field. Thank you to those of you at Aspen Valley Hospital who took on a student this summer — it is no stress-free task to deal with someone following you around and constantly asking you questions. Of course, many, many thanks to Mr. Joe High, who is the man responsible for setting all of this up. Starting this new school year I am more inspired (and knowledgeable) than ever!

Aspen a perfect match for lacrosse

On behalf of the Aspen Men’s Lacrosse Club, we would like to say thank you to Aspen for providing us with an amazing place to play a game. We battled with Vail and came out on top 15-8. An amazing day was had by all, including the deer that bolted onto the field in the middle of the game and was gone in a flash.

We would like to thank Mi Chola for hosting us after the game, Local’s Corner for providing us with waters and energy drinks, Keith Bulitz and the Parks Department for letting us use Lower Moore, Matt Harder for being the ref and doing an amazing job, and Vail and Steamboat for making the trek over to Aspen. A special thanks to Rick Stevens for being the creator and keeper of the game here in the Roaring Fork Valley and to John Ward and ANB Bank for their outstanding support of the men’s team.

We play every Wednesday night at the Willits Rugby Field (now more of a lacrosse field!) at 6 p.m. Please come join us.

Meyer family thanks community in difficult times

We are so grateful to the Roaring Fork Valley community for the outpouring of support we have received in the past few weeks since Guido’s passing. Your kindness and support have given us strength in this difficult, painful time.

The thoughtfulness in this valley is truly amazing.

Thank you to family, friends, the community and the business community. There have been so many generous acts — food, flowers, cards, visits, donations and so many kind words about Guido. We want to thank everyone who has helped us through so far. We feel blessed to be part of such a caring community.

With sincere thanks …

The family of Guido Meyer

We’re here for your health

West Mountain Regional Health Alliance would like to recognize our local federally qualified health center, Mountain Family Health Centers, this week during National Health Center Week. Mountain Family makes a huge difference in our region serving more than 14,000 community members and demonstrating results such as lower health care costs, healthier people, more jobs and reduced hospital visits to name just a few.

Mountain Family Health Centers lives its mission “To provide high quality, integrated primary medical, behavioral and dental health care in the communities we serve, with special consideration for the medically underserved, regardless of ability to pay.” Members of Congress do agree on the importance of Community Health Centers to our U.S. health care system. The Health Centers Program earned bipartisan support by proving time and time again (over the course of more than 50 years) that it is possible not only to have a federal program that works for the people it serves but delivers the return on public investment.

Please take a moment to congratulate and support Mountain Family Health Centers on its efforts for our community. West Mountain Regional Health Alliance’s mission is to build an integrated health care system to achieve optimal health for all people in the West Mountain region. Mountain Family Health Centers is one key partner in creating this health care system to better serve the individuals in our community.
