Gorsuch proposal has room for improvement
The community is going to be looking at the results of the redevelopment of the Lift 1 area for a very long time. With that said, I honestly believe the site plan needs to be reconsidered.
The new lift should be moved to the east where the World Cup finish is; it’s a far larger and better landing area. The original ski corridor where old lift No. 1 is should remain intact and no building should block that ski corridor above it. Maintaining that ski corridor up the mountain would allow different opportunities to bring a people-mover up from Dean Street, whether it’s restoring the old lift No. 1 up to Summer Road (yes, that is possible and there is that exact lift running today at Mad River Glen) or perhaps moving the old lift No. 1 to another location on the mountain and putting a different shorter lift in its place.
My point is, if Gorsuch Haus blocks that ski corridor, all those opportunities are lost. The portal to Aspen Mountain and to our public lands should be inviting and easily accessible. The development should be subservient to the original ski corridor and not the other way around. And yes, I do think there can be skier access across Dolinsek Park.
I sat on the Lift 1 COWOP, and having a nonrubber-tire solution up from Dean Street was a priority. Is the rubber-tire solution up Aspen Street really in keeping of our values of auto disincentive in Aspen?
We can do better, and it will be great. To those who say we don’t have enough snow to ski to Dean Street, that’s nonsense. The gondola starts from Durant, so please, let’s get this right.

I would like to make a comment to Aspen-Pitkin County Housing Authority, city of Aspen, Aspen Skiing Co., etc. with the ongoing Lee Mulcahy drama that has infested our community. In fact, it really applies…
