Development is contributing to traffic jams

Traffic is backing up daily, a mile west of Original Road to Willits Road every morning around 7:45. Also west of Valley Road at El Jebel Road, and this is still offseason!

Basalt schools need to admonish their staff and students to carpool. The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority’s El Jebel and Willits bus parking lots are full by 7:30 a.m. RFTA buses are being delayed by the traffic backups. It will only get worse when winter returns and riders have to wait out in the cold because their bus is running late.

The papers need to take a picture from a drone or ladder set up at the Willits bus stop, showing the traffic congestion that is worse than the one lane of traffic into the Entrance to Aspen. The midvalley has two lanes of stop and go traffic! And the Eagle County planning commission continues to approve more high-density developments in the midvalley. Over 500 more high-density units are already planed for the El Jebel area.

This traffic congestion problem needs to be addressed before it gets any worse this winter. The “Give a Flake” promotion needs to be seriously addressed by our midvalley local citizens by getting out of their cars, taking a school bus, carpool or taking a RFTA bus. Better yet, stop high-density developments from being approved.

More kindness, less judgment with Mulcahy

I would like to make a comment to Aspen-Pitkin County Housing Authority, city of Aspen, Aspen Skiing Co., etc. with the ongoing Lee Mulcahy drama that has infested our community. In fact, it really applies…
