Community blackmail by Gorsuch Haus, FIS

I was frankly overwhelmed this past week with the return of the World Cup to Aspen! I really, honestly cannot recall in my lifetime a better community event than that experienced by the entire valley last week. Everything — venue, race course, accommodations, events — absolutely world-class. A huge shout-out to Aspen Skiing Co. — unbelievable job and support. Community volunteers both on the hill and off — I promise you I will join you next time (if there is a next time); U.S. Ski Team and Bill Marolt for making it happen; local race organizers and crew chiefs — tireless work for hours on end; regular employees; everyone — absolutely incredible effort!

And then the FIS: “There is no question that FIS has the appetite to return to Aspen. The question is, when is the appetite there in Aspen for World Cup racing to come?”

Let me be one of many I hope to send the following message to the FIS: Keep your freaking race and shove it up your ass! No one on the planet has ever performed better than this community did last week. If you think you can leverage anything more out of this town, including dictating terms on how we will develop that sacred part of our town, you are, I am confident, sadly mistaken. If that’s your attitude, take your freaking ski race somewhere else and see how great it will be. All this even before the crews have had a chance to wake up and take the fences down!

And shame on Gorsuch Haus for jumping in with FIS with regards to this kind of community blackmail — total bulls–t!
