Letter: Times columnist deserves a kiss

Times columnist deserves a kiss

Dear Editor:

Seldom if ever have I felt the urge to plant a fat, wet kiss on another man, but guest columnist Glenn K. Beaton (“Fly the affordable skies,” commentary, July 11, The Aspen Times) is now forewarned.

To be sure, I love him solely for his mind … because he has one. What Socrates was to the Sophists, what Jesus was to the Pharisees, and what Voltaire was to the Catholic Church, Mr. Beaton is to Aspen’s city government and community ethos.

Given his subject matter, of course, he barely has to break a sweat: Any community predicated on the likes of Hunter Thompson and more concerned with going green than with the entire nation turning red is already on the verge of self-parody, and of being transmogrified from a “Playful City” into a Silly City.

Kudos to the Times for featuring such writers as Glenn Beaton and Melanie Sturm.
