Letter: More bloated government
The city of Aspen is “proposing the creation of a new position with the intent of peeling away layers of bureaucracy, … rules, regulations and government process,” according to the Oct. 7 article in The Aspen Times titled “Help on the way for downtown Aspen merchants?”
This, of course, will also require clerical support and at least one assistant. It probably never occurs to the city to simplify the layers of bureaucracy instead of hiring more bureaucrats. We have to give the city credit for being aware of the complexity of the “nuanced sets of rules and regulations.” Why not resolve the issue at the source and not bloat the payroll more?
