Letter: Lasting memories

It’s with great sadness that I’ve learned of the passing of my old buddy Jerry Morris on July 20. A great, dry wit. An incredibly gifted guitarist. A really solid friend whom I shared so many good times with in our Aspen days from the ’70s and ’80s.

As with many fine artists, Jerry was at times troubled with his path in life and reflective on what might have been. For a long time, Jerry carried a tremendous burden about the 1980 death of his ex-wife Ellen Pokress in a plane crash on Maroon Pass. Years spent in the meat grinder of Hollywood and the clubs on Sunset slowly steered Jerry back to his roots in Omaha, Nebraska, and a far more stable, inner peace.

Jerry was a tremendously solid, stand-up guy who fought a tough battle right up till the end. His spirit and character will stay with me for all of my remaining days.
