Letter: Kodak moments

Last week, the inaugural Aspen Photo Challenge was presented by the Aspen Chamber Resort Association. The competition asked 10 photographers to capture the best of autumn in and around Aspen. Geographic boundaries were set and photographic categories defined.

Then 10 photographers spent 5 1/2 days getting up early and staying up late while chasing their friends around on bikes, stand-up paddelboards, ladders and climbing ropes.

I want to thank the Aspen Chamber Resort Association and their event partners at Promo Communications and Outdoor Magazine for hosting a great, new event that offered a wonderful excuse to go play outside during one of the most beautiful weeks of the year. The competition spurred shooters to find new settings and novel angles.

I had as much fun seeing the images made by the other competitors as I had making my own. I am continually amazed by the outsized number of talented photographers who call this place home. Perhaps my favorite part of the week was catching up with some of them for the slide shows and awards at Belly Up on Sunday.

I can’t wait to see how this event evolves and grows in the coming years.
