Letter: Gail Schwartz a selfless public servant
We encourage your readers to please vote for Gail Schwartz for Congress.
With Gail as our congresswoman, we would once again have a representative in Congress whose priorities truly match our district. Gail knows that there are over 350,000 jobs associated with the outdoor recreation economy in Colorado, that many of those jobs are in our district and that we need a clean environment and public lands in order for our local economy to prosper. That is why Gail is a champion for combating climate change and for keeping our public lands public, not returning them to the states where they will be slowly sold off or permanently damaged as a result of being leased for mineral development. Some of incumbent Scott Tipton’s largest donors are oil and gas exploration companies, so it is no wonder that he supports selling off our public lands. Gail is also a champion for affordable health care for our rural resort communities, accessible college education for middle class families and a woman’s right to making her own health decisions. Gail is a champion of social justice and she will support comprehensive immigration reform.
In addition, Gail is a person who knows how to get things done. When she retired from the Colorado State Senate, her fellow Senators gave extraordinarily laudatory, heartfelt and bipartisan tributes to Gail. Some of her colleagues from the other side of the aisle expressed admiration for her tenacity, saying Gail was always thoroughly prepared, passionate and tirelessly working to represent the interests of the citizens of the Western Slope of Colorado.
We urge your readers to please mail in their ballots (with two stamps) as soon as possible or drop off their ballots during business hours and Saturdays at the Pitkin County Clerk’s office in the Ute City Bank building, 534 E. Hyman Ave., or at the other designated drop off locations, between now and Nov. 8, Election Day.
In closing, we quote from The Durango Herald’s endorsement of Gail to say please vote for the “pint-size and powerful” Gail Schwartz for Congress!
