Letter: A football season to remember

I would personally like to thank Ron Morehead from the bottom of my heart for giving me the opportunity to coach the Aspen boys fifth- and sixth-grade youth football team this fall and for all the work he does for the Western Slope Youth Football League.

He was always such a positive force when I was growing up and playing youth sports in the Roaring Fork Valley and he has continued his dedication to the future athletes of this valley. You are truly one of a kind, and words cannot express the gratitude myself and this whole community feels toward you and your family. Not only did the boys finish off a perfect 7-0 season with a championship victory against the Basalt Wolfpack (21-8), but they had fun and grew so much as a team as the season progressed. Football is more than just a game, and to be able to have an opportunity to be a positive influence in these young men’s lives was truly extraordinary.

I’d also like to thank the Aspen Elks Lodge No. 224 for sponsoring us this season along with Blair Elliot and the entire parks crew. I’d also like to thank Jay Maher and Karson Pike from the high school varsity team for their support this year and a huge thank-you to Mike Thomas and all the other coaches who came out and helped mold our boys. And lastly, thank you to the parents for being rock stars and allowing your children to play such an amazing game.

Thank you all so much for making this a fall I will truly never forget.

Joseph OCallaghan

Keep Crown Mountain Park free to all

|

An entrepreneur’s plea for a rushed commitment from Crown Mountain Park directors on his proposal for a 90,000-square-foot, indoor “sportsplex” should be delayed for proper vetting.
