Gurholt: Change the roundabout

The traffic circle isn’t the solution — it’s the problem! It works nicely unless there is a lot of traffic. When there is a lot of traffic, it doesn’t work very well at all.

The solution is simple:

Put traffic lights on all the roads coming into the circle during the rush hours. Favor the people who have to get to work and get home after work. Give them a green light for eight minutes and give everyone else a red light for eight minutes. Then give the people going to work or going home a red light for two minutes. Give everyone else a green light for two minutes.

This would reduce travel time for our work force by about a half an hour, morning and late afternoon. For every one else, it could add as much as eight minutes to their travel time.
