William Donald Rector

Chesapeake, VA — William Donald “Billy” Rector, 31, of Aspen, Colorado, was taken unexpectedly by the Lord to his eternal home Monday, February 12, 2018.

Born November 21, 1986 in Norfolk, he was known for his infectious personality, and beautiful smile. Billy spent 13 years at Norfolk Collegiate School where he earned many academic and athletic awards, set swimming records, played lacrosse, soccer and golf, was a Student Government President as well as a National Honor Society graduate. For several years, he was a local life guard and used his skills on the Outer Banks to save lives. He attended The College of William and Mary, graduating with a degree in Chemistry. While at W&M, Billy was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha. Following graduation, he moved to Aspen, to teach skiing and snowboarding for Aspen Ski Co. He fell in love with Colorado, rarely returning home, except for family visits and special occasions. Billy’s love of nature fed his desire to pursue his outdoor activities of hiking, fishing, skiing instructing, and with his gregarious personality, worked in the hospitality industry. He had wonderful clients and great stories to tell. He was a great fan of soccer and football, and was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan. Billy had a huge heart, loved his friends, family and God’s creatures, especially his dogs and cats. As an organ donor, Billy will continue to help and live through others. He will be remembered for his infectious laughter, lust for life and ability to balance fun with hard work. He was energetic, enthusiastic, positive and had an irrepressible lighthearted sense of humor.

Billy is survived by his father and mother, Dr. George, Jr. and Elaine M. Rector; his brother, George M. Rector and wife Rachael; his grandfather, Dr. George H.M. Rector, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Billy was predeceased by his grandmother, Patricia T. Rector; his maternal grandparents, Donald W. and Betty Jane Merrick, and his uncles, Charles Merrick and Dr. Roger Mosher.

Billy’s life was celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Norfolk Collegiate School’s Meredith Center for Performing Arts, 7336 Granby Street, Norfolk. Pastor Frank Holley officiated. A reception followed the service at Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, 7001 Hampton Blvd, Norfolk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Norfolk Collegiate School, The College of William and Mary, or Friends of the Aspen Animal Shelter.
