William (Bill) Durnan
William (Bill) Durnan was born June 9, 1939, in Somerville, Massachusetts, to William J. and Helen Durnan (Macdonald). The oldest of Ten Irish Catholic children.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother and younger brother David (2014).
Bill is survived by wife, Jeri, whom he married on Sept 23, 1965. Of this union of 50 years came a son William R. Durnan and daughter, Nicole (Steve) Sweeney and four Grandchildren.
Bill joined the Air Force Serves in 1960. He served as a Communication Specialist during the Vietnam Era for 7 years. He was able to travel while living in France. His last Duty Station was with HQ Command, (Strategic Strike Center Command) at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL. Where he meet the love of his life, Jeri. Bill attended the University of South Florida graduated with a major in Marine Biology and 2 minors Oceanography and Gemology.
In Florida, he enjoyed scuba diving and being a Soccer Coach/Referee that he got the pleasure of Refereeing FIFA games. After that, he learned how to drive a race car. Then qualified as a race car driver/trainer while with the Porsche Club of America, where he became President and Treasurer of the Florida Chapter and published the monthly magazine. All awhile being a Master Goldsmith for 35 years.
In retirement, He moved with his wife out to Carbondale, then to Glenwood Springs 15 years ago. Bill worked for RFTA and loved driving the bus. Bill enjoyed skiing, steeper the better, and playing classical guitar. He was always up to something like skiing/hiking, traveling or building a waterfall by himself until was not able to.
He fought a long 6 year battle with a rare form of Cancer and Parkinson Disease, beating all odds.
Bill will be remembered as a devote father and loving husband, scholar, and a man of few words about his own accomplishments in life.
Memorial Service will be held on Sunday January 17th at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Glenwood Springs at 12 pm.
