Passed into light at his home in Glenwood Springs, CO with family by his side. He was born in Pawhuska, OK. A celebration of his life will be held on January 6, 2018 at the Aspen Elks at 2pm. He was a US Marine veteran and renaissance style man, able to get things done with perfection and an avid learner. He taught himself guitar, was learning French. He is survived by his wife, Johanna Saizan Payne, son Brett, daughter in law Amanda, and his beloved granddaughter Tehya, sister Nancy Chowning, Aunt Patsy Schuck, nephew David Chowning, niece Mary Chowning, mother in law Anna Belle Saizan. He is preceded in death by his father Alfred Wesley Payne, Mother Catherine, sister Ann. Wayne moved to Aspen in 1977 and lived in Aspen until he moved to his ranch in 1996 in Glenwood Springs. He loved the outdoors, hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, hunting and skiing and loved to travel. He taught guitar classes at Aspen High School. Wayne started Beautiful Homes Aspen and was an artisan woodworker, proudly working in many luxury Aspen homes and restaurants. In later years he started Alpine Locksmith and became “Aspen’s Local Locksmith and Door Hardware Guy”, securing Aspen’s banks, offices and luxury homes. He is a member of the Aspen Elks, an Associate of the Aspen Board of Realtors, was a volunteer for the DOW wildlife rescue and systematically supported and volunteered for Wounded Warriors for many years.
