Susan Gibbs

March 11, 1956 — April 16, 2017

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of longtime Roaring Fork Valley resident, Susan Gibbs, who died in a car accident near Worland, Wyoming, on Sunday, April 16, 2017.

Susan Gibbs was born on March 11, 1956, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Robert and Martha Gibbs. She grew up on the family’s cattle ranch near Buffalo, Wyoming.

Susan taught skiing for the Aspen Ski Company for 36 years and she trained horses and offered riding lessons in the summer. She is perhaps best known for her summer ranch camp for kids.

Susan is survived by her ex-husband and dear friend, Andreas Fischer; her mother, Martha Gibbs of Buffalo; three brothers, John and Scott Gibbs, both of Buffalo, and Jim Gibbs and his wife Janina of Arvada; two nephews, Tyler Gibbs and his wife Lauren of Cheyenne, and Marshall Gibbs of Shell; two nieces, K.J. White and her husband Dario of Casper, and Megan Gibbs of Arvada. She was preceded in death by her father and her nephew, Zac Gibbs.

Please join us in a life celebration and “purple” party to be held in Susan’s honor at the River Valley Ranch barn, 333 River Valley Ranch Drive, Carbondale, CO on Sunday, May 28, 2017, from 11am – 2pm. Please bring a small appetizer plate or dessert treat. Water will be available, but please bring your beverage of choice. And remember to wear purple!
