Shane “Norma Jane” McClain

Shane McClain passed away peacefully in her home on January 8th, 2018, She was 93 years old. Born on March 29th, 1924, Shane grew up in Iowa during the Dust Bowl era. As the daughter of Danish farmers, she developed grit, determination and a very strong work ethic. She was resilient, intelligent, loving, and cared for any creature (human or otherwise) that wandered through the doors of her home in Aspen, Colorado. For over 30 years, Shane worked as station manager for Aspen Airways; in her later years, she could be found sorting through countless bags of donations working at the Aspen Thrift Store. She loved this community and cared deeply for her family and friends. Shane is survived by two sons, four grandsons, and three great-granddaughters, as well as her beloved dog, Maxwell. She will be missed by all. A celebration of Shane’s life will be held this spring, by her little pond in Aspen, when the flowers come out and the world becomes green again. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations to the Aspen Community School or Hospice of the Valley.
