Richard A. Baker

Richard A. Baker passed away peacefully on January 26, 2018 in Arkansas.

Richard, better known as Dick to his friends, and Grandpa to his family, was born in March of 1931 in Denver, Colorado, and was the youngest of 15 children. He joined the Marines, and received a purple heart as a member of the Chosin Few, in the Korean War. He met his wife Joyce in Denver after the war and they were married in March 1953. Richard loved being with his family, throwing horseshoes, bowling, and playing cards. He enjoyed going to Lake Powel and Reudi with family and friends. Richard was passionate about his sports, with the Denver Broncos and the Arkansas Razorbacks as two of his favorite teams. He worked at International Harvester in Denver until he moved to Basalt in 1968. From 1968-1998 he worked at Cap’s Auto Supply in Aspen. He left the valley in 1998, retiring to Bismarck, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife Joyce; his three children, Jodi (Jeff), Steve, and Tommy (Becky); grandchildren T, McCarra and Stevie Lee, Brad and Brian; great grandchildren Elway, Gavin and Aiden, and Carlie, and his Brother Smokey and various nieces and nephews.

Richard was a member of the Elks of Aspen for 49 years. Donations may be made to Elks of Aspen, No. 224, Veterans, 510 E Hyman Ave #310, Aspen, CO 81611. A celebration of his life will be sometime this summer.
