Dick (aka Doc) Coppock passed peacefully January 23, 2025 after a long battle with dementia. He was born in Michigan to Ken and Mildred (Spiece) Coppock.
In 1959, Dick and a buddy traveled to Aspen after high school graduation for their first experience with western skiing. The guys stayed at Ed’s Beds with dozens of others. It was then he fell in love with Aspen and all it represented.
After graduating from General Motors Institute in Michigan (now known as Kettering University), he went to work for Cadillac. While working, he participated in the Skiniks ski club and kept improving his skiing technique. He joined Industrial Tectonics, Inc. after working for Cadillac.
Beginning as the general manager, he was promoted to President. His job allowed him to travel the world. Often one would see him bringing along his skies or golf clubs. He would often say he wanted to do business with people he liked or places he wanted to travel.
When ever possible, he returned to the Aspen mountains he loved. When opportunity knocked, he bought a condo here site unseen in 1984 so he would have a place to stay and entertain friends.
Always giving back to the community, he was a ski ambassador on Aspen Mountain for eleven years and a member of the Elks. Volunteering during the Disabled Veteran Week was an event he never missed until his health no longer permitted it.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Althouse, niece Debbie Robinson, and nephew Kevin Coppock. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth Coppock, and nephew Ken (Kenny) Coppock.
A celebration of life will be held at the Aspen Elks, March 10, 2025, starting at 5:30 PM. All his friends are welcome to attend. Donations can be made to the Shining Stars or a charity of your choosing.
