Obituary: Howard Berman

October 6, 1927 – May 24, 2013

Howard passed away peacefully at the age of 85 following complications from a stroke. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Howard was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He attended University of Illinois and served in the Army in WWII during the occupation of Japan. He was a successful entrepreneur in the steel processing industry having founded Quality Steel Company in Bensenville, IL. Throughout his life Howard enjoyed boating, tennis, golf, horses, fine wines, cooking, motorcycling and skiing. He was a member and past president of both the International Wine & Food Society while living in Aspen, CO, and the American Institute of Wine & Food in Scottsdale, AZ, where he resided. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Minnie (Horwitz) Berman. Howard is survived by his wife, Susan (Gabriel); his former wife, Barbara Speyer; his brother, Marvin (Brigitta) Berman; son, Scott (Laura) Berman, daughter, Susan (Ray Cahnman) Berman; step-son Jason (Suzanne) Gabriel; grandchildren, Spencer Lazar, Winston Lazar, Graham Lazar, Grace Berman, Adam Berman, Oliver Cahnman and Atley Gabriel. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
