With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Christy Maron, who fought a courageous battle with cancer, and died at home in the company of loved ones. Born in Boston and raised in Maryland, Christy graduated from the University of Vermont. Shortly after graduating, Christy’s adventurous spirit led her to embark on a cross-country road trip that abruptly ended once she found Aspen.

Christy’s zest for life was evident in her many pursuits, including skiing, mountain biking, scuba diving, tennis, travel, and of course, pickleball. Christy was one of the original pickleball fanatics in the valley, and a fierce competitor who acquired many medals and reveled in the friendships the sport brought her.

Beyond her athletic endeavors, Christy had a compassionate heart. She had a remarkable talent for helping friends find solutions to problems and offering comfort when needed. Christy’s vibrant spirit extended to her storytelling abilities, enchanting friends and family with riveting tales from her numerous experiences.

Christy’s Colorado journey began with her first job at the Snowmass Club, where her strong work ethic and genuine warmth left an indelible mark on those around her. Later, she pursued a career as a teacher in Carbondale and Marble, imparting her knowledge and passion for learning to countless students.

Christy is survived by her father, Pete Welles, her sister, Amanda Welles, her sons, Peter and Alexander, and her partner Steve Sand. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sondra Welles. Although her absence leaves a void, her legacy of generosity, resilience, and love for life will always inspire us.

A celebration of life will take place at the pickleball courts on Meadowood Drive in Carbondale on September 16 at noon. Casual/pickleball attire encouraged. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite local charity, or to the V Foundation for Cancer Research at http://www.v.org.
