Obittuary: Justin Hall Doty aka “Brother Justin” and “Gusti Boom Boom” Oct. 27, 1967 — Aug. 28, 2013

Our beloved Brother Justin died of esophageal cancer on August 28, 2013, at age 45. Justin was a beautiful free spirit, an extreme athlete, a master craftsman, a fearless adventurer, and a source of joy which he spread around the world.

He was known for his infectous smile, 6’4” Tarzan physique, never-ending spirit of generosity and fun, and deep love of nature. Justin lived between Aspen and Carbondale, Colorado, and Bali, Indonesia. Born in San Francisco, Justin moved to Aspen in 1988 where he made countless friends and even more memories in these beautiful mountains.

Justin’s amazing joyful smile will always remain with his loving family: his proud Mom, Marcia Doty; his brother, Jason Doty of Denver; his sisters, Christa Kilk (Arnie) also of Denver, and Colleen Riordan of Jackson, Calif. His nephew, Hunter Riordan, and nieces, Mackenzie and Makayla Kilk, and Mia Riordan. He will also be missed by his stepfather, Fred Sherman. Hundreds of friends, too countless to name, are deeply saddened by the loss of this special soul.

Thanks to all Justin’s friends who attended benefits for him in Aspen and San Francisco, and supported Justin with so many acts of kindness. Since his diagnosis, there has been an incredible outpouring of love and support for Justin’s unique and transformative spirit, and all are welcomed to go to http://www.posthope.com/justindoty or Facebook group http://www.facebook.com/groups/justindotyfriends to read the many stories, check out the photos, and get more information about the upcoming party on Sept. 29.
