Michael John Ossana
Michael John Ossana died peacefully surrounded by his family in the home of his only daughter Sara Maria Ossana in Rhode Island the morning of August 4th, 2018. He was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer at the end of May 2018 just before his 66th birthday. His daughter spent his last two months by his side as they navigated this difficult, scary and sudden road together.
Michael was born in Paterson, NJ in 1952 and moved to Tucson, AZ at 19 where he lived for 25 years. He then moved to Colorado and lived in Basalt and Carbondale for 22 years working as a carpenter on many of the beautiful homes in the Valley.
Michael was a good person with a pure heart and sweet soul and spirit and everyone who met him felt the same. From being politely nudged out of Cuban airspace by a Russian MIG to flying with his daughter, Sara, along the Napali coast in Hawaii (upside down) to touring on his BMW motorcycle on the Isle of Man he lived life on his terms without fear and he will forever be admired for that. He was an excellent Grandpa, furniture maker and avid surfer, hiker, bread maker and gardener. We will love you and miss you always.
He is the beloved father of and survived by his only daughter Sara Ossana, her husband Mathew Provost and his grandchildren Sofia Camilla and James Michael. Survived by former wife and dear friend Diana Ossana and former wife and friend Harriet Spalding. Adored son of Marina (Trinchero) and Raymond Duzey. Cherished brother of Regina Stewart (Jack), Raeanne Giovanni Inoue (Izumi), John Raymond Duzey, Nina Bertsch (Gregory). Dear uncle to Marina Inoue, Ian Bertsch (Molly) and their children Alice Tainer and Frankie William and nephew Alex Bertsch. Uncle to Erica, Joshua, Ashley and Jonathan King. Loyal and valued friend to Daniel Takacs and his son Gabe, Otis Kunz (Helen) and their daughter Sarah of Colorado, dear friend to Connie Scorza and Leaha Sheehan. Preceded in death by his mother Marina, father Raymond, brother-in-law Jack, and his nephew Craig Dorian Oliver and stepson Donald Eugene Sheldon.
