Kenneth Broughton, was an early pioneer of the new Aspen. He was born in Glenwood Springs in 1935, moved to Aspen in 1945 with his family, and graduated from Aspen High School in 1952. He owned Broughton Electric, which was started by his dad in 1945, and remains in the family today as the oldest “family” owned business in Aspen.
Kenny was an avid outdoorsman, skier, hunter, and Boy Scout leader. With his dad he was responsible for connection and operation of 22 of the original ski lifts between Aspen Mountain and Snowmass, and was part of the team that put up the original TV towers for Aspen on Sunlight Mountain.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie, and 3 sons, Merl, Shane and Scot Broughton, 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and reunited in death with his daughter Aleta.
An informal celebration of Kenny’s life will be held November 1st at 3098 Cedar Dr., Grand Junction, Colorado from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Aspen Elks Lodge #224, 510 E. Hyman Ave, Aspen, Colorado 81611 for scholarship funds in the name of Kenneth Broughton.
