Kathy Sharp Van Ness

Kathy Sharp Van Ness of Carbondale passed away suddenly on Aug. 10, 2014, as a result of injuries suffered when her car was broadsided near her home at Ranch at Roaring Fork.

Kathy was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. She moved to the Colorado mountains in 1976 and established a dog-grooming business in the Vail area. Twenty-eight years ago she met and soon moved in with local attorney John Van Ness. The two spent many wonderful years together in Woody Creek before moving to Carbondale six years ago.

Kathy loved to entertain people with stories about her frequent and inevitably adventurous travels with John, from Hawaii to Florida to France and all the stops in between, often to attend bridge tournaments. She was an avid reader and had become very knowledgeable about how to fully enjoy the golden years.

Kathy made friends wherever she went and we will all miss her sharp wit, warm smile and happy laughter. She gave much more to this world than she asked in return.

Kathy is also survived by her father, Keith Sharp of Florida, her brother Keith Sharp Jr., and her nephew Brian, of Georgia.

Interment was beside her mother at Memorial Park in Memphis. A memorial service is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 27 in Carbondale, location to be determined.
