Joanne L. Hilty
Joanne L. Hilty, 86, passed away on at her home in Carbondale, Colorado on October 12, 2016 following declining health for the last four years.
She was born on February 26, 1930 in Fremont, Ohio the daughter of Harold C. and Enora (Kieffer) Willey. She was married to Dr. Ted L Hilty on June 7, 1952 at the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren Church, Fremont, Ohio. Surviving is her husband and sons Scott D Hilty (Claudia) Avon, Colorado, and Dr. Jack B. Hilty (Nancy) of Snowmass, Colorado. She leaves grandchildren Alex and Lauren of Avon, Colorado, Max and Summer of Snowmass, Colorado. Also surviving are two brothers Richard Willey and James Willey of Fremont, Ohio.
Following graduation from Fremont Ross High School in 1948 she studied interior design and art at Pratt Institute and The Ohio State University. She left college to marry her husband before his senior year of dental school at The Ohio State University. During this she was employed as a technical illustrator at North American Aviation in Columbus.
Joanne returned to Fremont in 1957 where her husband established an orthodontic practice. She and her husband resided in Fremont until Dr. Hilty retired in 1994. While Fremont Joanne was a member of the Coterie women’s club. She was active member and past president of the Ladies Association of the Fremont Country Club. In addition to gold she was an avid skier. Upon her husband’s retirement the family moved to Colorado. Since 1996 they have resided at Aspen Glen in Carbondale, Colorado
Joanne was an accomplished watercolorist and pursued this passion throughout her life. She attended several watercolor workshops to further enhance her artistic skills. She exhibited at many shows and won awards at the Northwestern Ohio Watercolor Society shows, the May Show at the Toledo Museum of Art, the Ohio State Chapel show of local women artists and the Arizona Watercolor Society Show. In addition to printing she was an avid knitter and creator of needlepoint. At one time she owned and operated a yarn shop in Fremont.
Internment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Fremont on Friday October 21. Funeral arrangements are being made by the Keller-Koch-Chudinski funeral home in Fremont. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Carbondale Community United Methodist Church. A memorial reception will be held in Carbondale at a later date.
