Bernice Brown Bundy
A long time resident of Aspen and the Valley passed away this spring.
Bernice grew up in east Texas, raised a family in south La., and always had a yearning for Colorado. Attending a poetry workshop with the Aspen Institute in 1967 was a perfect opportunity to make that dream come true. Shortly thereafter, with her son and daughter, life in the mountains began.
She also lived in Taos NM during the 80’s, loving the southwestern flavor and the light. It must have been her Indian heritage. There she made an extended family with enduring friendships.
Bernice was a true artist and has left us with much beauty. Her paintings, beautiful stained glass work, those great crocheted hats and extraordinary gardens.
She spent her last years in southern Colorado with her daughter and son in-law, always in her garden and saving seed.
Seeing the Cubbies win of the World Series was icing on a life well lived. She is fondly remembered by family, friends and the children she brought under her wing.
Bernice is survived by her brother Connie Brown, her daughter Bonita & (John) Cahill, Her son Larry & (Susan) Bundy, granddaughter Ashe & (Dave) Lehr and her great grandson Jack Cahill. Any contributions on her behalf can be made to your local food bank. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose is assisting the family.
