Audrey M. Spiegel

Audrey M. Spiegel, age 83, of Northfield, IL, and Aspen. Born and raised in Evanston, IL, she attended Northwestern University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Her friendship will always be treasured, and we already miss her and her infectious laugh and beautiful smile. She was generous and glamorous, a radiant personality with a wonderful sense of humor. The Spiegels were involved in numerous Chicago and Aspen civic and arts organizations, including the Aspen Music Festival, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Merit School of Music, Northwestern University, and many others. Generous as well in their spirited entertaining of friends, the Spiegels hosted famously creative parties. Her houses were always warm and comfortable and beautifully designed for entertaining. A brass plate is on the front door of their Aspen home with the Latin inscription “Si Non Oscillas, Noli Tintinnare” (“If you don’t swing, don’t ring”). Later in life, they decided it was time to travel and see the world. They went on dozens of fabulous trips with friends and the CSO, visiting six continents and the world’s greatest destinations. Beloved wife of the late Edward “Ted” Spiegel; loving mother of the late Lynn Spiegel; also survived by a sister-in-law, cousins, nephews, and several close friends. She cherished her three Chihuahuas: Pepe, Lily Sue, and Cindy Sue. The Spiegels also counted as family Sean Susanin, who for 30 years faithfully took care of the Chihuahuas and lived with Audrey after Ted’s passing.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Aspen in the spring of 2017.
