Zen and the art of ‘motobike’

Catherine Lutz
No matter how small the town, the sight and sound of motorbikes are constant.

By far the most common form of transportation in Vietnam, the motorbike is not only fuel-efficient and highly maneuverable in dense traffic, but it can carry an amazing amount of stuff. Examples of what we saw on different motorbikes include:

a family of four

a cage full of piglets (alive and squirming)

three grown men

a mattress

a huge mesh bag full of inflated balloons

reeds, grasses and logs

cartons of books

two squawking bunches of ducks, tied together by the legs and hanging upside down on either side
