Youth center request

Dear Editor:Statistics prove after-school hours are when youths are most likely to participate in risky behaviors. Statistics also show that in communities with comprehensive youth programs, youths are less likely to commit crimes, get in trouble and that academic performance improves. The Aspen Youth Center (AYC) has been providing positive alternatives to the youths in the Roaring Fork Valley since 1987.AYC just recently started a homework room. This quiet room is now designed specifically for students to do their homework and read. To accommodate this new room, we are seeking new computers, children and youth books, computer-learning software, educational computer games, encyclopedias, etc. We are very excited about the addition of this new room and feel it will greatly benefit your kids.AYC is very lucky to have the support of the Roaring Fork Valley community. Our center continues to be busy every day after school. In January, we had just under 1,000 youth visits!
