Your vote counts

Dear Editor:

Here is why your vote counts.

From the First Amendment: “Congress shall make on law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise there of.”

In the Eastern state of Bihar in India you must be Hindu ” if you are a Christian, you must convert. If not your home and all you own will be burned. Last week, a priest and a nun were stripped naked, had all of their belongings burned and were driven out of town. In Mosul, Iraq, you must give up Christianity and convert to Islam, move or be killed. Over 30 Christians have died an another 1,000 have moved.

Without the First Amendment, religious minorities could be persecuted. Your vote counts.

From the First Amendment: “Or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.” In the country of Jordan, a poet wrote a poem about two lovers who were not married and in that poem he quoted the Koran. That is against Islamic law. He was sentenced to three years in prison.

So if you want to still read letters to the editor, speak freely … well, just another reason why your vote counts.

The First Amendment protects freedom of speech, of press, of religion, of peaceful assembly and the right to petition government.

It would be well worth while for you to take the time and read the First Amendment.

So my friends this is just some of the reasons why your vote counts. Please get out and vote.
