SANTA FE, N.M. ” Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano says a 10-year-old Texas girl died Tuesday in an accident at Santa Fe Ski Basin.

The child was with her parents and brother on Sunset Trail, an intermediate run.

Witnesses say she was gaining speed when she fell while heading toward the trees, and continued to slide into a tree.

The sheriff’s office says she sustained head trauma, and that the ski patrol was unable to resuscitate her.

The sheriff’s office says the child was not wearing a helmet.

Solano says the family is from Bushland, Texas, west of Amarillo, but authorities did not release any names.
