Young appreciative, ready for next step
June 28, 2012
First of all, thanks to all of the voters who participated in the Board of County Commissioners primary. No matter whom you supported, you are all to be commended.
During the campaign, I rediscovered what an incredible community we are and how truly bright and special our residents are, as well. I also believe that Pitkin County won by having four great candidates step up to the plate and put themselves out there.
We are all going to benefit by having Darryl Grob help guide us through this extremely dry summer in his new role as the city of Aspen’s wildfire-mitigation expert. He truly knows his stuff. John Wilkinson has spent thousands of hours volunteering his time with the library and the open space and trails program. We are lucky to have people like that in Pitkin County. Thank you, John.
As it relates to Steve Child and me, you will have two candidates who equally share a love of our county. There are, however, initially three areas where we disagree significantly. As voters, I would strongly suggest that you follow these important topics. Steve has supported drilling for natural gas in Pitkin County, and I am vehemently opposed to any drilling here. Steve supports the Wexner land swap, and I oppose it. And last, we disagree on how to spend the $10 million housing fund.
I am sure that there will be more as time goes on and we get an opportunity to debate what’s best from our perspective. After the dust clears, I am confident that you will make the right choice for the next commissioner. Thanks again for a good turnout in an out-of-season primary.
