You read for a great cause
Schools are back in session and things are much quieter here at the Children’s Room at the Pitkin County Library. Our summer reading program saw a great turnout of eager readers.
This year, amid the balloons, treats and prizes, our young readers had the opportunity to donate some of their reading incentive awards earned for time spent reading to the Pearlington Mississippi Public Library, which was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. Our library board graciously agreed to match each “book buck” donated buck for dollar. We were able to send the Pearlington Library Building Fund a check for $880!
I know that the people in Pearlington send their thanks and we here at the Pitkin County Library would like to also. Thank you, parents, for bringing your children to the library and for encouraging them to love books and nurturing their ability to think of others and their needs. Congratulations to our wonderful children for reading so much and for having the generosity to share much of what they earned.
Keep on reading and we’ll see you at the library!

While new restaurants enter the Aspen scene, there are several spaces that will remain empty this winter. Meanwhile, the retail market remains extremely hot.
