You can save a life

Dear Editor:

I am writing to encourage local community members to sign up and learn how to save a life. I work as the director of operations and a deputy for the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, and in this role I know the importance of suicide prevention.

On Tuesdays during September, which is Suicide Prevention Month, the Aspen Hope Center and the Garfield County Suicide Prevention Coalition will offer free suicide-prevention trainings from Aspen to Rifle. These trainings teach life-saving skills about recognizing signs of depression and suicidal behavior, learning how to approach someone and to get them help.

I have been involved in the suicide-prevention training as a trainer, and I believe we are making a real difference in the valley. To RSVP for the trainings or to get help for someone, please call the Hope Center at 970-925-5858.
