Yes to RFTA

Dear Editor:

We are all aware that the services of RFTA are an essential part of our community and the businesses that make Aspen work.

We know that countless numbers of Aspen area employees, businesss people and professionals ride RFTA to their businesses and employment every day. We also know that as we see the daily RFTA experience improve, more people can make the decision to take the bus instead of their personal cars or trucks. That is a “plus” for everyone, especially everyone else caught in the daily traffic battles. Fewer drivers mean less traffic for all. Even if you never ride the bus, you will benefit from enhanced bus service.

Benefits proposed to the RFTA system are both short- and long-term, assuring all RFTA riders of improved schedules and an enhanced experience on the bus. For my business, about half of our valued employees make the trip upvalley every day on the bus. As an employer, we encourage bus ridership, and we pay for their tickets. I want their experience to be improved, the best possible, both now and into the future. The minor sales tax increase is a small price to pay for improved bus service ” and the great majority of it will be paid by our out-of-town visitors! That’s a good deal for us all.

I urge voter support of the RFTA sales tax measure, 4A, for all who live and work in our valley.
