Yes, let’s make gridlock worse
Dear Editor:
Oh good. Traffic on Main Street isn’t congested enough, city government is considering building a tree-filled median down it. It’s so easy for visitors, delivery trucks and commuting workers to negotiate now, it’s obviously time to make it almost impassable. Maybe we can back traffic up to Independence Pass and the airport every day, all day. The more cars trapped in town and idling in gridlock the better for our often inverted air, especially if the city’s also planning on opening a bottled oxygen concession.
Municipal bureaucrats who rarely drive in and out of town and apparently have no stake in sane traffic flow are definitely who should be in charge of this. We’re already such a beacon of thoughtful transportation solutions (read: buses) that this can only gild our reputation. In these times, there couldn’t possibly be a better use for the money. So how soon can we start and how much can we spend?
