Working together on the bear problem

Dear Editor:

To all of you who attended the bear meeting, on behalf of the Colorado Division of Wildlife, I would once again like to thank you for taking time to attend the meeting last week at the Limelight Lodge. We are pleased that so many people came out to offer solutions to the challenges of living in prime bear habitat.

We look forward to working with all of you to protect the bears and the people of the area. It’s a tough balancing act, but one we feel can be accomplished with some teamwork. Based on your attendance at the meeting and willingness to sign up to help, we think things are headed in the right direction.

The DOW appreciates the support of all of the agencies that attended the meeting and helped face the challenges of this past summer. Thanks to the Aspen Police Department, city of Aspen, Pitkin County, Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Forest Service. We are all continuing to work together on this issue. With your support as neighbors, consumers, taxpayers and voters – we have an opportunity to make a difference.

You will be hearing from the Division of Wildlife soon. We hope to pursue many of the ideas that you brought forward at the meeting, but we will need your help.

In the meantime, thanks again. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions. I’m happy to answer what I can or find the right person to answer anything I cannot.
