Wonderful music in Aspen’s Harris Hall

Dear Editor:

I want to thank the Music Associates of Aspen for welcoming the Colorado State University Symphony Orchestra to Harris Hall on Monday night. It was fantastic to introduce our kids to the orchestra at close range and hear some great players.

On the rarely-heard Debussy’s Rapsodie for Orchestra and Saxophone, Nathan Wilson’s confident and soaring alto sax transported us all.

On Hindemith’s “Der Schwanendreher,” viola soloist Sabrina Romney laid down some fiery licks that have no doubt been appropriated by the likes of Jimmy Page and other heavy metal rockers …

The orchestra, under the direction of Wes Kenney was as tight as the much-heralded student bands we hear during Aspen’s summer festival, despite their fatigue from playing three Colorado cities in a single day! Congratulations, thank you to all, and please come again.
