Woman reports sexual assault

Police are investigating after an Aspen woman told them she was sexually assaulted late Tuesday night.The woman was taken to a doctor by a roommate on Wednesday morning because she was bleeding. She was then transported to Aspen Valley Hospital for treatment, where she told a doctor she had been sexually assa-ulted, Aspen Police Detective Chris Womack said.”At this point, this case is still under investigation,” Womack said Thursday.The woman, 48, allegedly told police that a man she didn’t know sexually assaulted her, although details of the attack were vague. Police said yesterday they are following up on leads and planning on interviewing the victim.”We take all allegations of sexual assault very seriously,” Police Chief Loren Ryerson said. “We’re going to fully investigate all details of the case.”The woman was treated and released from Aspen Valley Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.Police would not release more information about the case yesterday, saying they have more work to do in the following days.Naomi Havlen’s e-mail address is nhavlen@aspentimes.com
