Woman denies threatening Vail liftie

VAIL, Colo. ” A woman who was charged with misdemeanor menacing after an incident at Vail Mountain’s Vista Bahn last week said she never threatened a lift operator with an ice pick.

“I just said to the young man, ‘If that shovel would fall down on your head, then, at that time, you would feel the pain that I feel,'” said Elena Adams of New York on Monday.

Adams was charged with misdemeanor menacing after police said she threatened lift operator Brock Glover, 23, while she was trying to download the Vista Bahn on Dec. 27.

Adams was trying to get on the lift on the wrong side, where skiers get off, said Sara Cross of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

Glover tried to escort her to the correct side, but Adams tried to get on the lift at the wrong spot anyway, and fell, Cross said.

She then threatened Glover with the ice pick, Cross said.

“(The ice pick) was within arm’s reach of Adams,” said Sara Cross of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

But Adams said she needed to get on the chair at an unconventional place because she has medical problems, and the lift operator wouldn’t accommodate her.

She fell, suffering inflammation of the brain, she said.

“I am the victim,” Adams said.

Adams’ initial court hearing is set for Feb. 20. She faces a minimum sentence of a $50 fine and a maximum sentence of 6 months in jail and a $750 fine.

Vail Resorts declined comment for this story. Glover could not be reached.
