Sussi Strid and Mimi Lenk at the Academy Screenings kick-off party.

Aspen, CO Colorado

According to travel connoisseurs, travel agents and experienced vacationers, there’s no place quite like Aspen for the holiday season.’s travel experts go so far as to deem Aspen the “Number one place to ring in the New Year” with Bangkok and Barcelona trailing behind in second and third.

The bountiful snow blanketing the valley ensured a traditional white Christmas last Monday. This weekend’s abundance of events and parties certainly will render New Year’s Eve unforgettable.

A tranquil alternative to all of the excitement abuzz around town is to take in a flick at Aspen Film’s Academy Screenings. Every holiday season since 1992, Aspen Film has featured a slate of the year’s hottest films headlined by top directors and stars. Open to all, the Academy Screenings provide a sneak peek at some of the films everyone will be talking about come Oscar season.

To kick off the two-week-long festival that runs through Jan. 1, Aspen Film and Men’s Journal co-hosted an apres ski party on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Sky Hotel. Guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the Sky and left with gift bags loaded with highly sought after items including Timex watches and Napapijri apparel and accessories.
