Winter weather advisory in effect through Friday evening

Staff report

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Aspen area through 6 p.m. today.

The advisory means that periods of snow or blowing snow will cause travel difficulties, including slippery roads and limited visibility. Anywhere from 2 to 8 inches of snow is expected, and most accumulation was expected Thursday afternoon and evening, according to NOAA. The snow level is 9,000 feet.

Independence Pass temporarily closed Friday morning due to inclement weather and stuck vehicles. Eastbound traffic is being turned around at mile marker 45 until further notice.
There is no estimated reopening time.
