Winter storm in forecast for Aspen, Snowmass
Aspen, CO Colorado
ASPEN – A winter storm could produce blizzard conditions and dump more than a foot of snow in the mountains surrounding Aspen and Snowmass this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter storm warning is in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to midnight Sunday, and the weather service is predicting 12 to 18 inches of new snow by late Sunday night.
Southwest winds gusting to 35 mph are predicted Saturday morning, shifting to the west with gusts of up to 45 mph in the afternoon and into Sunday. Blowing snow could reduce visibility to less than a mile and create the potential for drifting snow, the weather service said.
In town, the weather service was predicting up to 6 inches of snow on Saturday and Sunday. Mostly sunny skies are back in the forecast starting Monday.
