Winter on its way back to Aspen

ASPEN ” Sunshine and balmy temperatures continued to lull Aspenites into thoughts of spring Wednesday. Winter should return by Thursday.

In fact, a snow and blowing snow advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday, and snow moving into the mountains surrounding Aspen and Snowmass Wednesday night could mean 4 to 7 inches on the ground by Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Additional accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are forecast Thursday, with gusty winds and wind-chill readings of 1 to 11 below.

The forecast also calls for a slight chance of snow Thursday night, with lows of 5 below to 5 above and wind-chill readings of 2 to 12 below, according to the weather service.

Sunshine is expected to return Friday, with highs in the 20s, but subzero wind chills in the morning. Mostly cloudy skies are forecast Saturday, with a 20 percent chance of snow and highs in the 20s.
