Wind closes chairlifts at Snowmass
Staff report
The high winds forced several chairlift closures at Snowmass Thursday and slowed lifts at the other ski areas.
The upper lifts — Big Burn, Sheer Bliss, Cirque, Elk Camp and High Alpine — were shut down for the day at 1:24 p.m., according to Aspen Skiing Co. Alpine Springs, a mid-mountain lift, was closed at 2:25 p.m. The upper lifts were delayed at times earlier in the day.
The Aspen area was under a high wind warning until midnight. Winds were out of the southwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 70 mph.
