Wilson the right choice for state representative

Dear Editor:

I wholeheartedly support Democrat Roger Wilson to be our next state representative in Denver.

Wilson will be an excellent state representative. He has a background that is uniquely fit for promoting our Roaring Fork Valley’s priorities of green jobs, improvement in our education system and a clean environment.

Wilson received a physics degree from the University of Colorado and attended the Colorado Outward Bound School in Marble and the National Outdoor Leadership School in Wyoming. A Colorado resident since 1968, he has worked in retail, construction and the newspaper industry.

Through his position as chief technical officer for a children’s education website, starfall.com, which helps teach children how to read, Wilson has learned firsthand that there are innovative and cost-effective ways to improve Colorado’s education system.

Through his position as a system and software engineer with Lockheed Martin, working on projects that included the Hubble space telescope, he has learned that there are many ways that science and technology can help keep green jobs in Colorado.

Wilson said he supports efforts to move Colorado to the forefront of alternative energy, to what has been called the “new energy economy,” and he supports incentives for new jobs in these industries in the state.

Wilson is wary of state budget cuts to things like state parks that could turn away tourism.

Wilson is concerned that if people come to Colorado and the parks are closed, as has happened in California, that’s not good for all the businesses that depend on tourist dollars. His plan is to focus on creative ways to make cuts without significantly affecting the things that provide an income to Colorado and Colorado’s capability to grow new jobs in the next decade.

Please vote for Roger Wilson for state representative.
