William (Bill) Robert Smith

William (Bill) Robert Smith, 46, was born Oct. 28, 1959, in Chicago to Paul Richard and Dorothy (Jakalski) Smith. He died peacefully at his Basalt home on Aug. 23 with his wife and his dogs Max and Jake at his side.

He married Rachel St. John on Sept. 9, 1995 in Basalt. Bill had been an area resident for 28 years.

Bill was a loving, devoted husband and was a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend and employer. He loved fishing most of all, especially fishing with friends and family at Lake Powell. He was truly loved by all who met and knew him and his infectious smile. We will dearly miss him and remember all the wonderful ways about him.

He was preceded in death by his brother Peter W. Smith.He is survived by his wife, Rachel Smith; his parents, Paul and Dorothy (Jakalski) Smith; his brother, Paul Smith; his sister, Cynthia Rachelle Siomiak and her husband Mark Siomiak; nieces Heather, Stephanie and Saundra; and nephews Sean, Mike, Simon and Pierce.

Aspen History: ’60s Ski Fashion


In the 1960s The Red Onion as the Aspen Ski Club would host an annual ski fashion preview, which in addition to clothing also included live music and a strip auction.
