EAGLE ” Firefighters are still working to contain a wildfire that started in Eagle Wednesday evening about a mile north of Hernage Creek Trail.

The fire is estimated to be between 5 and 10 acres in size, said Lee Ann Loupe, spokeswoman for the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit.

Airplanes significantly slowed the spread of the fire Wednesday by dropping slurry and water on the blaze, and fire crews worked through the night, but still don’t consider the fire contained, Loupe said.

The fire is believed to have been started by lighting around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
