Wildfire containment expected Monday

NEW CASTLE ” Crews expect to gain control Monday over a wildfire burning in Garfield Creek State Wildlife Area outside of New Castle.

Burning Mountains Fire Protection District Chief Brit McLin said on Sunday night, “Our anticipation is to have it contained and controlled by the end of business tomorrow.”

McLin said that after a better measurement, the fire’s size is estimated to be 25 acres. It did not grow on Sunday.

The cause is still under investigation, he added.
